BK Drying Time Recorder has been used widely in the coatings industry throughout the world for several decades. A needle carrier holding six hemispherical ended needles travels the length of the six 305 x 25 mm test strips in 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours. A time scale mounted on the side cover is graduated to suit the different travel times.

The Recorders define stages in the drying process as:-

Stage 1 ¬A pear shaped impression corresponding to the time taken for evaporation of solvent.

Stage 2 The cutting of a continuous track, corresponding to a sol-gel transition.

Stage 3 An interrupted track corresponding to the surface-dry time.

Stage 4 The needle no longer penetrates the film, corresponding to the final drying time.

The Complete instrument is supplied with main unit, standard needle, glass strip, Certificate of conformity, notes for calibration of the instrument and operation manual.

Available Models

The BK3 Speed Drying Recorder

has six needles that travel along the length of six glasses Strips. All six needles are linked together on one carriage which is driven by a motor through a three speed gearbox, so that the user has the choice of one of three speeds for a given test. All Six needles will then travel together at this selected speed.

• The standard speed range is 6/12/ 24 hours for the 12” travel.

• Alternative speed ranges of 3/6/12 hours and 12/24/48 hours can also be supplied.

The BK6 Drying Recorder

has independently operating tracks. The six needles each have their own carriage so that six tests can be carried out at different starting times. The speed of these tracks is fixed and cannot be altered by the user (unlike the BK3 speed). However the BK6 can be supplied with pairs of tracks running at different speeds. For example, 2 tracks at 6 hours, 2 at 12 hours and 2 at 24 hours. Or 2 at 6 hours, 2 at 12 hours, and 2 at 48 hours. Or all tracks at 12 hours. There are obviously very many combinations to choose from and it is necessary for the customer to specify his choice. Readily available speeds to select from are 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours. The BK10 Drying Recorder has independently operating tracks. The ten needles each have their own carriage so that ten tests can be carried out at different starting times. The speed of these tracks is fixed and cannot be altered by the user (unlike the BK3 speed). However the BK10 can be supplied with pairs of tracks running at different speeds. For example, 4 tracks at 6 hours, 4 at 12 hours and 2 at 24 hours. Or 2 at 6 hours, 6 at 12 hours, and 2 at 48 hours. Or all tracks at 12 hours. There are obviously very many combinations to choose from and it is necessary for the customer to specify his choice. Readily available speeds to select from are 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours (Note: Special Speed can also be arranged at an extra cost in all the models)
